About our tour....

Several years ago I first learned about our family's connection to this lighthouse but it wasn't until October 6th 2001 that my grandmother and I finally took our first steps onto Rock Island. It was a very cold, wet, and blustery day, in typical North Country fashion.
We were greeted by Kevin Kieff, Thousand Island Regional Director of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, and then Tom Mitchell, Rock Island Park Manager, escorted us on a personal and very informative tour of the island and it's facilities—inside and out—that lasted two and a half hours.
This website is a photographic record of our tour, as told from our perspective as descendants of keeper Michael Diepolder. I've added some historical facts along the way for context.
Both Grandma and I would like to thank Kevin and Tom for such a memorable and meaningful opportunity for our family!
