The Dwelling: Exterior (click on any image to view a full-size version)
| The dwelling house standing today was bult in the mid-1880's; it replaced the original structure built in 1848. | |
| It has been thought by some that the back extension on the house was a later addition; however, correspondence from the 1880's shows that it was actually a modification made specially for the Rock Island station by the designing architect, in acknowledgement of the fact that families in this section were accustomed to having "summer kitchens" at the back of the house during hot months. | |
| Original decorative woodwork on the exterior survives, as illustrated by this second-story window on the east side. | |
| Cedar railings line the perimeter of the front porch. |
