Ward
Family Trip
to Rock Island Lighthouse
On
13 September 2005, David Ward
of Colorado and his family visited Rock Island Lighthouse. David's father,
Frank K. Ward, was keeper at
the light from 1940 to 1952—this visit marked the first time David
had walked on the island since his father's last day of service there
more than fifty years before. Family members who accompanied David included
his wife Alice, his daughter
Alison and her husband
David Sherrow, and his
brother Herbert Ward.
The trip was arranged with
John Cranker, Manager of the Thousand Islands Region, New York State
Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Mark Wentling,
of the Rock Island Lighthouse Historical & Memorial Association,
also took part.
